For example, if the Link of your website appears on more then one blogs or websites then you have same no. of backlinks from there. And in the SEO world backlinks are of utmost importance for getting traffic to your website and getting a good page rank for your website and web pages as well.

Backlink, which are links coming from other websites/blogs back to your own, are also called inward or inbound links.
