Government frequently feels distant to many people, but local elections often have the most immediate effect on daily life. School boards help decide which services are prioritized, including public safety, zoning, and community programs. These decisions influence the cost of services that people depend on regularly.

Citizens sometimes ignore smaller races because big headline issues fill the news. Yet a school board member can have more impact on a neighborhood than a distant official in a capital city. Because of this, attending forums is often a smart habit.
