CIRI GRAMATIKA FUNGSIONAL BAHASA INGGRIS DALAM NAS ILMIAH

Abstract


This research aimed at describing the English functional grammatical features of scientific texts, journal articles in particular. A content analysis method was used to analyze the data which were taken from six journal articles of three different fields: Linguistics, English language Teaching, and Medical written by native and non-native speakers. The research revealed that in ideational meaning the grammatical features were dominated by material and relational process, goal participant and time and quality circumstance. In interpersonal meaning the topical, textual + topical, and interpersonal + topical themes were mostly used. Whereas in textual meaning declarative mood, with positive polarity was quite dominant. The stated mood was found as the highest in number. The past and present tenses were used in finite mood. The findings could be beneficial for an institution to provide suitable learning materials for the students to learn how to write an acceptable English journal articles.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memerikan ciri fungsional gramatika bahasa Inggris dalam nas ilmiah khususnya dalam artikel jurnal penelitian. Metode analisis isi digunakan dengan sumber data artikel jurnal penelitian berbahasa Inggris dalam bidang ilmu bahasa, pengajaran bahasa, dan kedokteran yang ditulis oleh penutur asli dan bukan penutur asli. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dari makna ideasional ciri gramatika fungsional bahasa Inggris diwarnai oleh penggunaan proses material dan relasional serta penggunaan partisipan goal dan sirkumstans waktu dan mutu. Pada makna interpersonal tema yang banyak digunakan adalah tema topikal dan tema tekstual + topikal, serta tema interpersonal + topikal. Ciri gramatika fungsional pada aspek makna tekstual ditandai dengan penggunaan mood deklaratif yang dominan. Mood deklaratif ini bercirikan arah atau polarity positif. Unsur mood subyek yang paling banyak ditemukan adalah bersifat yang dinyatakan (stated). Unsur mood finite pada umumnya menggunakan past (lampau) dan present (sekarang). Temuan ini dapat menjadi masukan bagi institusi yang memberikan pembelajaran penulisan ilmiah dan atau gramatika bahasa Inggris khususnya dari segi materi pembelajaran.
