STUDENTS’ PERCEPTIONS OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF TALKING CHIPS TECNIQUE IN LEARNING SPEAKING

Abstract


Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui persepsi siswa tentang teknik Talking Chips. Penelitian ini dilakukan melalui pendekatan kualitatif. Subjek dari penelitian ini siswa kelas XI di SMAN 9 Bandar Lampung. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan rekaman video dan wawancara. Topik pembelajaran yang digunakan dalam teknik ini adalah argumentative dialogue. Analisis deskriptif digunakan untuk menganalisis data ini. Sebagian besar siswa memberikan persepsi positif terhadap tingkat kesulitan, tingkat stres, tingkat kepercayaan diri, minat siswa, dan motivasi siswa. Hal ini menunjukan bahwa teknik Talking Chips memfasilitasi siswa untuk terlibat secara aktif dalam pembelajaran berbicara bahasa Inggris khususnya dialog argumentatif.

The objective of this research was to explore the students’ perceptions of the implementation of talking chips technique. The current study was qualitative approaches. The subjects of the research were the  students of SMAN 9 Bandar Lampung. The data were collected through video recording and interviews. The topic of teaching speaking was argumentative dialogue. The decriptive analysis was used to analyze the research. The results showed that majority of students had positive perceptions toward on the implementation of Talking Chips technique in terms of difficulty, degree of stress, confidence, interest, and motivation. This suggests that TCT facilitates the students to actively involve in learning English speaking particularly argumentative dialogue.
