THE IMPLEMENTATION OF MIND MAPPING TO INCREASE STUDENTS READING COMPREHENSION ACHIEVEMENT

Abstract


Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan adanya perbedaan statistik antara kemampuan membaca siswa sebelum dan setelah penggunaan tehnik mind mapping. Sampel penelitian adalah kelas VIII B dari SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Bandar Lampung yang terdiri dari 32 siswa. Analisis data menggunakan Paired Sample T-Test dari program statistik untuk sosial science (SPSS) versi 16.0. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa terdapat peningkatan yang signifikan pada kemampuan membaca siswa yang berhubungan dengan menemukan ide pokok, sepesifik informasi, referensi, kesimpulan dan perbendaharaan kata dengan tingkat signifikan 0.00<0.05. Mengusulkan bahwa tehnik mind mapping adalah effektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca siswa.

This research is aimed to find out whether there was a statistically significant increase of the students reading achievement after the students were taught through the mind mapping technique. The sample of this research was class VIII B of SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Bandar Lampung which consisted of 32 students. The data were analyzed by using Paired Sample T-Test of Statistical Program for Social Science (SPSS) version 16.0. The result showed that there was a statistically significant increase of students reading comprehension in terms of finding main idea, specific information, references, inferences, and vocabulary with the significant level 0.00<0.05. This suggests that the mind mapping technique is effective to increase students reading comprehension achievement.
